Despite waking up multiple times before 6am because of jetlag (grrrrr), we were up and out bright eyed and bushy tailed for our first day. After having a delicious pastry breakfast in the shadows of a giant milk bottle outside the Boston Children’s Museum (which overlooks the replica Tea Party ships) we headed to South Station to catch the T to the Science Museum.
Here we boarded our transport for the next 90 mins. A bright yellow Duck. Having been welcomed aboard by our Jeff Gordon-like guide “The Wheelman” (and being promptly mocked for Britain losing the War of Independence) we spent the next hour and a half getting to know a bit more about the city of Boston both by land and sea.
After the Duck tour, we spent a few hours in the Museum of Science then walked down the river to the MIT campus. We saw our first live American football of the trip on the MIT sports fields!
For tea, we ordered a pizza from one of the oldest pizzerias in the North End of Boston. It claims to be the best pizza in Boston, and we were struggling to disagree. We ate our pizzas in a little park then walked back to Boston Common to find a spot to watch some Shakespeare! Every summer, the Commonwealth Shakespeare Company puts on free shows on the Common, so everyone can watch a play in a more relaxed atmosphere. This year is Richard III, and it was fantastic. Well worth the $10 to rent a deck chair.
Tomorrow we hit the streets of Boston to follow the red brick road and find out where it all went wrong for the British here 250 odd years ago.

Glad to see you are enjoying all the sites, entertainment and food of Boston
Love Karen

Shakespeare for less than a tenner. Awesome.
