We left Charleston this morning, heading for Savannah, about 2 hours away in our next state, Georgia. We stopped off for some jeans shopping, then got on the road.
We reached Savannah just after lunch and checked in to Eliza Thompson House, a beautiful historic inn right in the city centre. We were upgraded to an enormous room, very in keeping with the house.
We decided to have a break from sight seeing and have a few hours at the beach, nearby on Tybee Island. The beach was lovely and not too busy, so we found a quiet spot and relaxed in the sun. Even the sea, although not the bluest, was lovely and warm, and refreshing.
We had cheese and wine in the hotel, then walked into the city. We saw the square where Forrest Gump was filmed, then walked to the river where a paddle steamer was just leaving (not paddling though). Savannah is just as we imagined an old fashioned, Southern town, with lots of pretty squares and cobbled streets. We wish we could stay for longer!
- Chorizo Sliders and Firecracker Shrimp Spring Rolls
- Complementary Cakes and Pink Lemonade
We tried a jazz tapas bar for tea, then went to Leopold’s for an ice cream before heading back to the hotel for their complementary cakes and pies for pudding. Yum.

Thanks for the jeans!
